The further along in my career I proceed, both in the educational and social media fields, I understand the importance of making a good first impression. I don’t often write about fashion, as I am not an expert nor do I pretend to be. However, this collection from Roland Mouret makes me want to know about the history of the design and be first in line to purchase some new pieces that deliver the punch I need to make an unforgettable first impression. Looking forward to the collection this August, just in time for back to school shopping season.

Banana Republic and celebrated designer Roland Mouret are pleased to announce the Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection – a limited-edition, covetable capsule highlighting Mouret’s keen understanding of fit and the female form through the use of Banana Republic’s signature Sloan fabric. Banana Republic’s Sloan Collection of dresses, skirts and pants has gained acclaim for the use of contour stretch fabric. The women’s capsule launches exclusively at select Banana Republic locations worldwide and online in early August 2014.

The foundation of the Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection – the Banana Republic Sloan fabric – is a unique blend of rich, bi-stretch fabric, which creates a “magic” fit that shapes through figure-flattering silhouettes. Mouret, famous for his exceptional skills in draping, structure and style, naturally gravitated toward this signature material, which he hand-draped, cut and pinned on the body to create this iconic capsule. The nearly 30-piece collection shines a light on Mouret’s craftsmanship talents through the use of this dynamic fabric.

Mouret is best known for his feminine, hourglass fitted dresses, which have become a favourite among Hollywood stars. In 2006, the British based designer with a French heart and soul, became a household name when A-listers first wore Mouret’s now-famous Galaxy dress on the red carpet.

“Partnering with Banana Republic on this project was such an adventure for me,” says Roland Mouret, founder and designer of his namesake label. “The common goal for this collection is to offer incredible fit through an assortment of hourglass silhouettes using Banana Republic’s Sloan fabric, extending my love of structure into accessible prices. These pieces are multi-functional for the modern woman to wear and accessorize in her own way, making her always ready for life’s journey.”

The Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection pushes fashion and function with must-have additions to a stylish modern wardrobe. Key details include bold colourblocking, graphic perforated details, leopard prints, playful proportions and, of course, svelte cuts on everything from blazers and pencil skirts to sheath dresses. Apparel includes petite styles and will range in price from $62 (belt) – $205 (dress).

Secret Agents and Femme Fatales! Are you ready to party?

On Saturday, April 26, secret agents and femme fatales will gather incognito at the Canadian War Museum. Their mission: to put an end to child hunger in Ottawa… while having a great time, of course!

The Ottawa Gala, presented for a tenth year by TELUS, and featuring HOT 89.9, is the city’s premiere event for young professionals and has raised over $700,000 for local youth initiatives since its inception in 1993.

Surviving Winter

It has been a long cold winter in Canada. There is no doubt in my mind that this weather has had its’s toll on both our mental and physical well being. I love winter, really I do. However, even my love for the wintery weather was waining.

Winter Wonderful

My children’s activities keep me busy to say the least. We have become masters of multitasking including: car homework; pool side reading log completion  and blogging in the parents room at the gymnastics centre. The girls swim and/or in the gym close to 20 hrs per week collectively, for us multitasking is key to maintaning our sanity.

We began using Spectro products this year after my oldest began to suffer dry skin from the cholrine in her practice pool. The dry patches on her hands, would crack and bleed making swimming almost impossible. We began using the kid-friendly Shower gel in January 2014, and quickly noticed a difference in her skin. KT did was not is as much discomfort and could focus more on her swimming, it was a win-win situation for us.

Andie is a gymnast, she loves everything about the gym including the uneven bars. She is at the gym 9 hrs a week . Andie chalks her hands before beginning her routine, which then transfers onto her suit, skin, hair and eventually my car. It is chalk-a-palooza after a training session on the bars. Her hands suffers the most from this activity, she washes them so many times that they become dry and itchy. Andie hates to be itchy, she tells me it’s like spiders on her skin. She has been using the kid-friendly hand mositurizer and the adult protective gel this winter. Even her coach has noticed a difference in her performance as she is not afraid to try new moves to add to her routine.

My son is 5 and is constantly coming home with mystery stains, bumps and bruises. He hates to wear socks and his boots are wet all the time. Due to this wetness his feet, toes and in between spaces take a beating. Beckett also hates having any creams or lotions on him…ever. At night I have been sneaking in once he is asleep and slathering on Spectro’s hypoallergenic cream, it has no perfume and is demonologist recommened. Beckett’s feet have healed nicely and he no longer has cracks between his toes.

 

Working in a public school,  I am unable to wear perfume or heavily scented toiletries of any kind due to allergies. Using the Spectro products I have been able to keep my skin from suffering and respecting the rules of my workplace.

 

This is the first time we have used the Spectro line of products and I am impressed. We will be repeat customers.

The Baby Show is ‘Springing’ Back into Ottawa

Baby shows are a chance for parents to see the latest toddler gear, check out the information sessions and get up to date on the latest baby trends. Lucky for families in Ottawa, The Baby Show is coming back on May 3rd & 4th, 2014.

This time around, it will be held at the Ottawa Convention Centre located in the heart of Ottawa on the banks of the Rideau Canal.

This show is perfect for those expecting a new family member or for those with children under five. The Baby Show is the largest pregnancy and early parenting show in our capital city. I have found important information about community groups, fitness activities and safety issues that are relevant to my lifestyle and needs at The Baby Show.

Active for Life at the BConnected Conference

This weekend I am attending the B Connected Conference in Ottawa. I am working with Active for Life to bring awareness to their site and social media channels.

” Experts agree that physical literacy is just as important as reading, writing, and arithmetic.”

This simple statement made me want to work with the Active for life team. Really, that is it. They capture my values as a parent, educator and community coach.

As well, I hope to help parents, community members and coaches develop an understanding of physical literacy.

“Physical literacy comes from developing a wide variety of fundamental movement skills such as hopping, skipping, throwing, catching and jumping. Kids have a lot more fun being active when they are physically literate. Physically active kids get higher grades in school, have better social skills and are happier and more confident.”

Tea with Oprah

Starbucks and Oprah have teamed up to bring patrons a special Oprah-style Chai Tea. I for one, love the idea of intense cinnamon and clove flavours in this special Oprah-inspired tea. I also appreciate the fact that a portion or the proceeds will go to Oprah’s Leadership Academy Foundation.
