Roland Mouret for Banana Republic

The further along in my career I proceed, both in the educational and social media fields, I understand the importance of making a good first impression. I don’t often write about fashion, as I am not an expert nor do I pretend to be. However, this collection from Roland Mouret makes me want to know about the history of the design and be first in line to purchase some new pieces that deliver the punch I need to make an unforgettable first impression. Looking forward to the collection this August, just in time for back to school shopping season.

Below is a full press release with more information on the designer, dates and his social media channels.

Banana Republic and celebrated designer Roland Mouret are pleased to announce the Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection – a limited-edition, covetable capsule highlighting Mouret’s keen understanding of fit and the female form through the use of Banana Republic’s signature Sloan fabric. Banana Republic’s Sloan Collection of dresses, skirts and pants has gained acclaim for the use of contour stretch fabric. The women’s capsule launches exclusively at select Banana Republic locations worldwide and online in early August 2014.

The foundation of the Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection – the Banana Republic Sloan fabric – is a unique blend of rich, bi-stretch fabric, which creates a “magic” fit that shapes through figure-flattering silhouettes. Mouret, famous for his exceptional skills in draping, structure and style, naturally gravitated toward this signature material, which he hand-draped, cut and pinned on the body to create this iconic capsule. The nearly 30-piece collection shines a light on Mouret’s craftsmanship talents through the use of this dynamic fabric.

Mouret is best known for his feminine, hourglass fitted dresses, which have become a favourite among Hollywood stars. In 2006, the British based designer with a French heart and soul, became a household name when A-listers first wore Mouret’s now-famous Galaxy dress on the red carpet.

“Partnering with Banana Republic on this project was such an adventure for me,” says Roland Mouret, founder and designer of his namesake label. “The common goal for this collection is to offer incredible fit through an assortment of hourglass silhouettes using Banana Republic’s Sloan fabric, extending my love of structure into accessible prices. These pieces are multi-functional for the modern woman to wear and accessorize in her own way, making her always ready for life’s journey.”

The Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection pushes fashion and function with must-have additions to a stylish modern wardrobe. Key details include bold colourblocking, graphic perforated details, leopard prints, playful proportions and, of course, svelte cuts on everything from blazers and pencil skirts to sheath dresses. Apparel includes petite styles and will range in price from $62 (belt) – $205 (dress).

“I’m so inspired by Roland’s skill for draping and attention to fit,” says Banana Republic Vice President of Women’s Design, Melloney Birkett. “He has such a strong sense of how to dress a woman, and brings a beautiful sensuality to his work. Roland’s vision really matched ours as we worked together to use his design expertise as a build to Banana Republic’s Sloan fabric to create a truly covetable collection.”

The Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection will be featured in Banana Republic’s August campaign, including select print, online, direct mail and in-store. Join the conversation on Twitter with @BRStyleCA @RolandMouret.

Surviving Winter

It has been a long cold winter in Canada. There is no doubt in my mind that this weather has had its’s toll on both our mental and physical well being. I love winter, really I do. However, even my love for the wintery weather was waining.

Winter Wonderful

My children’s activities keep me busy to say the least. We have become masters of multitasking including: car homework; pool side reading log completion  and blogging in the parents room at the gymnastics centre. The girls swim and/or in the gym close to 20 hrs per week collectively, for us multitasking is key to maintaning our sanity.

We began using Spectro products this year after my oldest began to suffer dry skin from the cholrine in her practice pool. The dry patches on her hands, would crack and bleed making swimming almost impossible. We began using the kid-friendly Shower gel in January 2014, and quickly noticed a difference in her skin. KT did was not is as much discomfort and could focus more on her swimming, it was a win-win situation for us.

Andie is a gymnast, she loves everything about the gym including the uneven bars. She is at the gym 9 hrs a week . Andie chalks her hands before beginning her routine, which then transfers onto her suit, skin, hair and eventually my car. It is chalk-a-palooza after a training session on the bars. Her hands suffers the most from this activity, she washes them so many times that they become dry and itchy. Andie hates to be itchy, she tells me it’s like spiders on her skin. She has been using the kid-friendly hand mositurizer and the adult protective gel this winter. Even her coach has noticed a difference in her performance as she is not afraid to try new moves to add to her routine.

My son is 5 and is constantly coming home with mystery stains, bumps and bruises. He hates to wear socks and his boots are wet all the time. Due to this wetness his feet, toes and in between spaces take a beating. Beckett also hates having any creams or lotions on him…ever. At night I have been sneaking in once he is asleep and slathering on Spectro’s hypoallergenic cream, it has no perfume and is demonologist recommened. Beckett’s feet have healed nicely and he no longer has cracks between his toes.

Working in a public school,  I am unable to wear perfume or heavily scented toiletries of any kind due to allergies. Using the Spectro products I have been able to keep my skin from suffering and respecting the rules of my workplace.

This is the first time we have used the Spectro line of products and I am impressed. We will be repeat customers.

I was given a selection of Spectro products this winter, this review and opinions are my own.

I cannot wait to support  the “Shop for Hope” campaign at my local Winners & HomeSense stores between Saturday April 12 and Sunday May 11, 2014. As Mother’s Day & Easter are quickly approaching I will purchasing specially marked Canadian Women’s Foundation products as the perfect gift for my loved ones. Tshirt

The net proceeds from the Shop for Hope collection, including t-shirts, pillows, jewellery boxes and mugs will help raise hope for women and children in local communities across Canada.

“With 50% of women in Canada experiencing physical or sexual abuse, violence against women is a critical issue. Through this annual campaign, we want to raise hope for women who have experienced abuse as well as build awareness about the issue of violence against women in Canada,” says Mina Mawani, President and CEO, Canadian Women’s Foundation. “Supporting and investing in emergency shelters and violence prevention programs helps provide women who have experienced abuse access to a safe place and opportunities to learn the skills they need to rebuild their lives and live free from violence.”

Shoppers can also purchase Hope decals for $2, $5 or $10 with all proceeds going directly to the Canadian Women’s Foundation’s 10th annual campaign to end violence against women.

I will feel good about purchasing these items to help support the Shop for Hope campaign. My favourite items are the decorative elephant, classic mugs and inspirational sports towels.

“WINNERS and HomeSense are committed to helping the Canadian Women’s Foundation raise hope and end violence against women. Together, along with other campaign partners, we are proud to have collectively raised more than $12 million over the past nine years to support women who have experienced abuse,” said Shannon Johnson, WINNERS HomeSense spokesperson. “Our carefully created beautiful Shop for Hope products inspire people to join this cause and help women in Canada who have experienced violence to rebuild their lives.”

Active for Life at the BConnected Conference

This weekend I am attending the B Connected Conference in Ottawa. I am working with Active for Life to bring awareness to their site and social media channels.

” Experts agree that physical literacy is just as important as reading, writing, and arithmetic.”

This simple statement made me want to work with the Active for life team. Really, that is it. They capture my values as a parent, educator and community coach.

As well, I hope to help parents, community members and coaches develop an understanding of physical literacy.

“Physical literacy comes from developing a wide variety of fundamental movement skills such as hopping, skipping, throwing, catching and jumping. Kids have a lot more fun being active when they are physically literate. Physically active kids get higher grades in school, have better social skills and are happier and more confident.”

Is there really anything else we want for our kids then for them to be happy?

This weekend, I will be asking questions, tweeting pictures and generally engaging my community to connect with the #AfLKids community.

RT my tweets or ask me questions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest using the #AfLKids hashtag this weekend, and each impression will enter you into a draw to win an Active for Life Spring Kit. My friends at Active for Life headquarters will pick a winner Sunday night.

Good Luck to all my readers and active families across Canada. If you are at the B Connected Conference come over and ask me Physical Literacy.

Save the date! We will also be hosting a Facebook party on April 26th, 2014 at 8:00 pm. There will be interesting questions, fun ideas to keep your kids active and of course prizes. There will be more information to come!

Tea with Oprah

Starbucks and Oprah have teamed up to bring patrons a special Oprah-style Chai Tea. I for one, love the idea of intense cinnamon and clove flavours in this special Oprah-inspired tea. I also appreciate the fact that a portion or the proceeds will go to Oprah’s Leadership Academy Foundation.

The following is a press release outlining the upcoming release of Teavana Oprah Chai in late April. I might be first in line to try in out! Don’t forget to answer the poll at the end of my post!

STARBUCKS COFFEE CANADA - Starbucks and Oprah Winfrey Come Toget

Oprah Winfrey personally developed the tea with Teavana’s leading teaologist Naoko Tsunoda. The distinctive blend of tea, which features a bold infusion of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and cloves, blended with loose-leaf black tea and rooibos, will be made available to customers in time for Mother’s Day in the U.S. and Canada in handcrafted latte and loose leaf tea formats.

“I looove tea,” said Oprah Winfrey. “My daily tea ritual is a vital part of my morning. Savoury and spicy chai, with its deep flavour, has long been a favourite of mine. When Howard Schultz offered to have me come into the Starbucks tasting room and create my very own tea blend, I thought that sounded like such a unique opportunity and fun to the tenth power. To share one of my favourite things with the rest of the world and support youth education at the same time is truly the perfect blend.”

“With the introduction of Teavana Oprah Chai, we are going to elevate the tea experience in the same way we did for coffee,” said Schultz. “Partnering with Oprah Winfrey in the creation of this distinctive and remarkable tea is a strong next step forward in accomplishing this objective, while also giving back in a meaningful way through the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation. I am personally humbled to work with such an inspirational leader and visionary who shares so many of our core values and beliefs. I truly believe that, together, we will set the bar for a world-class tea experience at Starbucks and Teavana.”

Contributions from sales of Teavana Oprah Chai products will go to the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation, which provides funding for the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls – South Africa and is dedicated to helping its graduates attend colleges and universities. Starbucks Canada Tea Heritage and Future with Teavana
Tea has been a part of Starbucks heritage since 1971, when the company was founded as Starbucks Coffee, Tea and Spices. Tea represents a $90B global market and with Canadians consuming almost 9.7 billion cups of tea each year, the market in Canada represents more than $500-million1. For Starbucks Canada, tea is the third largest beverage category. Last year, more than 1 in every 10 beverages sold was a hot or iced tea beverage and Starbucks Chai Tea Latte is consistently among the top five-selling beverages across the country. This year, Starbucks is taking steps to integrate Teavana® teas into its more than 1,300 Canadian company owned and licensed stores, beginning with Teavana Oprah Chai at the end of April.

“Canada is a nation with deep tea heritage, connected by traditions and cultures from around the world,” said Richard Burjaw, vice president of marketing for Starbucks Canada. “We’re excited to build on this heritage and bring new tea experiences to more Canadians with Teavana teas in our stores.”

Also unveiled today is, a new online destination built around the concept of community featuring original videos and articles that inspire moments of reflection and an insider’s look behind-the-scenes at how this partnership came together and how Oprah “steeps her soul.”. In addition, starting this Sunday, March 23, Oprah will engage with spiritual thought leaders, best-selling authors and filmmakers about how they personally steep their soul. Interviews will feature Shirley McClain, Arianna Huffington, Gary Zukav, Louis Schwartzberg and Sue Monk Kidd, among many others.
